Philippines Bans Chinese Milk

ZHANG: The chemical at the heart of the tainted milk scandal in China has now been found in the Philippines. Tests by health authorities revealed traces of melamine in two products imported from China. STORY: Today the Philippine health department released a list of products that have been tested for melamine. Two of them have traces of the toxic chemical. Administrative cases will be filed against the manufacturers and retailers of Chinese-made Greenfood Yili Fresh Milk and Mengniu Drink. [Francisco Duque III, Health Secretary]: "I would suggest that that should be explored, especially because not only did these products harm the health of children and adults as well, but also the industry." And Health authorities say that they are not solely focusing their investigation on Chinese goods. They will look at all imported products. [Leticia Gutierrez, Food Director]: "If you will notice in the list, there are products also... These are milk products that we already included in the testing to really find out, even if they are made or manufactured in other countries, if they are really good for human consumption." Dozens of countries throughout the world have already banned or recalled Chinese-made milk products. Melamine was added by corrupt Chinese milk producers to falsify protein levels.
